Blog Tour: Burst Into Flame by Lyssa Layne

Burst Into Flame

“In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an

encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who

rekindle the inner spirit.”

-Albert Schweitzer

For Dr. Katy Garrity, life is a whirlwind, and the New York Fire Department is the heart

of the storm. After claiming so many people she loved, including her own husband, Katy

is left adrift, trying to keep up with a busy career, a baby son, and her loving extended

family.

Her only anchor is Jesse O'Neil, her late husband's best friend. The charming former

playboy has put his entire life on hold to care for Katy and her son. It's inevitable that

sparks will flare between them, but all of life seems to be conspiring to keep them apart.

Especially Katy's own heart, which shies away from trusting another firefighter.

Will the flames of passion burst into a lifetime of love? Or will secrets burn away their

connection, causing Dr. Garrity to be burned again?

Excerpt

Jesse crumbled the cup in his hand and tossed it on the ground. When he turned

around, Patrick Doyle ran into him. Shoving Doyle against the fire truck, Jesse fisted his

shirt and moved his face within inches of the other man’s. “Watch where you’re going,

asshole.”

Immediately, Lieutenant Dan Murphy, or Murph as the guys called him, pulled Jesse

off the younger fireman. “Come on, O’Neil, let him go.”

Doyle avoided making eye contact with Jesse just like he always did since the

accident. The accident that Doyle caused that killed his best friend, Nick Garrity. It had been

over a year ago, but Jesse hadn’t let it go and he wasn’t sure he ever would. The whole

situation pissed him off—losing his best friend, watching Katy’s heartbreak, and knowing

her son was being raised without a father. Jesse shoved Doyle one more time then walked

away before he did something he would regret.

Murph followed him and patted his back. “Jesse, you’re going to have to let it go.”

Jesse spun around to face Murph, his eyebrows furrowed and anger seethed in his

eyes. “Let it go? He’s responsible for killing the best firefighter Engine 58’s ever seen! We

should have let him quit when he asked.”

Murph shook his head. “You don’t mean that. Garrity put his life on the line for that

kid. If he quit then, Nick he would have done it for no reason. It’s our job now to make him

one of the best we have on our crew.” Murph clamped his hand on Jesse’s shoulder and

squeezed tightly. “Jesse, you need to do this for Nick.”

Abby's Interview
Please welcome Abby, as we sit down and chat about Burst into Flames. Maybe we will learn some insight of where Abby's head was during. ;)

Hi Abby! Thanks for chatting with me today. I brought you some Starbucks, hope you like a warm cappuccino!

Thank you Abby, please call me Isabella, so we don't get each other confused. *Laughs*

Of course, Isabella! *smiles.*

So Abby, when meeting you in Burst Into Flame, I could tell you were close to the family. But what made you stay around the family after Ryan died, besides the letting the girls being a part of their grandparents life? What about your family?
Honestly, the thought didn’t even cross my mind to go back home.  Ryan and I had a whirlwind relationship just like Katy and Nick. What can I say? When the Garrity men know they’ve met the one, they know! I was in town visiting a friend and once I met Ryan, I never went back home. This is where my girls were born and I just knew this is where they would be raised. I gained two families when marrying Ryan, the Garritys and the FDNY, so I had plenty of support after 9/11.

What were your thoughts when you brought Anthony around?
I was so nervous! This is the first time I’d ever brought a man around my girls and I had no idea how they would react. I was also concerned how Andy would react, especially since Katy was moving on too.

Why did you get mad when you found about Katy and Jesse? Why did you care so much?
Honestly, I think part of me was jealous. Ryan’s been gone for over ten years and I spent so many nights alone which Katy never experienced. I also thought they were both out of line.

Where did you disappear to at the fireman’s ball?
Wouldn’t you like to know. *Abby gives me a wink*

When arriving at the ball, did you get upset when the fireman from a different engine confronted you and Katy about being married to the brothers?
A few years after Ryan died, I distanced myself from the firefighters. I mean, I stayed in touch with a few of them because of Nick and Andy, but for the most part, those two were the only firefighters in our lives. Because of that, I hadn’t been reminded that I was a Garrity widow *she cringes at the word* in quite a long time. I had tried to prepare myself before the ball but when it happened, it still took me by surprise.

What did you think of Katy when meeting her?
I was thrilled when Nick brought Katy home, He'd been searching for the perfect girl for a long time. I was bit skeptical of how quickly things moved because I didn't wan to see Nick hurt, but Katy instantly became part of our family. My girls adore her and we've became like sisters.

That's so nice to hear! Well, that is all I have for today. Thank you for letting me interview you!

Thank you so much for chatting with me! I had a great time. We should totally do coffee again, maybe Katy can join us? What do you say?

We will defiantly have to have Katy with us one day!

Review: 5 stars! *** SPOILERS***
Reading Love Is A Fire and then Burst Into Flames, was such a bad, but great idea. Don't get me wrong I love how Nick and Katy where with each other. But Jesse captured my heart when he stepped up to take care of Katy and Nicky. He didn't have to, but he also fell in love with Katy. I didn't like Rich, and it wasn't the fact that Jesse is the one that is suppose to be with her, he just came off to me as stalkerish type of guy. I mean really, if you want to know something about someone, ask that person. Not the work place. As I thought that Katy was really done with Jesse, it broke my heart all over again, so as it did with Nick died. But I am beyond happy, with crying happy tears that Katy and Jesse are together and a happy family with Nicky and Sophia, along with +1. I hope to see more of all these characters.. SOON!
